It's "List" season. Santa Lists (if you have little's), lists for your spouse of what to get you. Begging your teenage kid to give you a list of affordable things besides a car, lists of events and family gatherings you "should" attend and the "LIST" goes on.
It also means that there are all sorts of publications, authors, whiskey experts putting out their top "List's" of the year. So, there is no shortage of "Lists" to choose from. The question is, which one is correct? and more importantly, is there a "List" that you should really pay attention to?
I don't know what to tell you. Sorry. I wish I could point you to the best "List", but again, just like tasting and drinking whiskey, it's all pretty subjective. It rests with the tasting notes of the people who are putting together their lists.
And of course there is always a publication or two whose list is paid for by some distillers. So you have that to contend with. All this to say, in any list, you have to read through it and determine how valuable it is.
I'm not saying all publications are unscrupulous and only rate whisky's depending on how much they are paid. Not at all. There are some very reputable publications that put out their Best of the Year lists. You just have to read through the list and how they put it together.
So....Here's a "List" of "best of Whiskey Lists" for you to take a look at. A few words of caution; you may find yourself lost for hours down a rabbit hole (a very good whiskey mind you) and some of these links will have adds. There are no affiliations to any of the links. These are by no means an exhaustive list of "Lists". Just some that have shown up in my email inbox.
There are a slew of other YouTuber's that put out thier lists as well and some of them are very well versed in whiskey as well as you just may find someone to follow that has a pallet you can relate to. Many of these channels will put out end of year lists as well.
This list could go on and on, and on. Once you start looking, don't be shocked if you start receiving lists in your email box frequently.
Who knows, you may find a gem or two that you haven't you tried. You can then put it on your Christmas list and hope Santa leaves it under the tree for you. After looking through all these lists, I may need a new legal pad to continue my list. I better get a back up pen.
