First off, hello and welcome to our blog. If you have searched to find our blog page on our website, congrats this is it. And, thank you for digging that far.
I'm Jeff and the host of the show. I'm also one of the Producers. There are two other key individuals in this show. Kirk (Producer and Director of Photography) and Kurt (Producer and Marketing). And yes, it can get confusing between Kirk and Kurt.
So why did we start this show? Well…short version is that we (the three producers) love Bourbon, and more specifically, I love craft Bourbon. Don't get me wrong, I also love and drink a lot of the big name brands, and you can always find them on my bourbon shelves. I have several favorites. But, I have also found some favorites in the Craft Bourbon category that I always come back to. And, they can be just as hard if not harder at times to find than the highly allocated bottles. But, it's not that they are highly allocated that makes them hard to find, it's that often times they are very regional.
The hunt for great craft Bourbon is a lot fun. Much like many Bourbon geeks love to hunt for the highly allocated bottles, I think the same when it comes to Craft Bourbon. Plus, when I find one of these Craft Bourbon's that impress me, it's easier to find more of it since that's what the distillery is making. It's not like some of the highly allocated expressions that only come out once a year.
Another reason for starting this show is that we (the three producers) are all serial entrepreneurs. We have started many small businesses over the course of our working lives, and we know what it takes to start a business, grow it, develop it and make it thrive. Not to mention how much of a person's sweat, heart and soul goes into starting a business. We like to support small businesses and love to see them prosper.
Supporting small businesses and craft whiskey specifically, helps all of us whiskey drinkers. It's these craft whiskey distilleries that are trying new methods of recipes, distilling, aging, etc… that are producing a myriad of different tastes and flavor profiles in whiskey. It's exciting. And, tasty.
Once again, don't get me wrong. It's not that we are against the big name brands or what they produce. I often times come back to many a big name brand for that consistent taste glass to glass. It's like an old friend. You can always count on them. However, variety is the spice of life (as has been said), and craft whiskey provides a lot of different flavors. It's worth it, to me, to keep trying craft whiskey and seek it out. You never know where the next big name brand breakthrough will come from. Don’t' forget, brands like Smoke Wagon, High West, Old Elk, Michters and even Makers Mark, were once very small producers and not on everyone's shelves distributed across the nation.
Your tastes will likely differ from ours. That's great. But you don't know whether you like it unless you try it. So the hunt is on. What is the next great Craft Bourbon/Whiskey? Where will it come from? And more importantly. What the hell does it taste like. I hope you stay tuned and give us your thoughts as we go on our search. We will have a Patreon page that you can subscribe to for additional videos that are not released to the public, as well as a store to get some good swag. Don't forget to sign up for email notifications of when we publish a new video.
This is gonna be fun!
